Man, that Ryan Reynolds loves to work, doesn’t he? Maybe it’s because there was a time when his career wasn’t as flourishing and strong. Maybe it’s because Hollywood is finally paying what he deserves. Or maybe, just maybe, he actually enjoys making movies and I need to stop being such a cynic.
Whatever the reason, Reynolds has a few projects lined up for the near future. And now he has another one. He has signed on for a time-travel movie from director Shawn Levy. The film, once titled Our Name Is Adam, doesn’t have a set release date but will begin filming at the end of the year if the coronavirus pandemic subsides.
The movie sounds like it might be something of a dramedy more than a straight-up comedy. It will follow Reynolds as a man who “must travel back in time to get help from his 13-year-old self. Together, they encounter their late father, who is now the same age as Reynolds.” I don’t know about you but it sounds to me like there could be some touching moments with that plot. It also sounds a little bit like Big meets Back to the Future. These are not complaints.
One question though: what on Earth could someone need from their 13-year-old self? I can only speak from experience but I don’t think the 13-year-old version of me would be much help with anything. I guess he could maybe re-teach me how to illegally download music or eat an entire sleeve of Ritz crackers in a single sitting but that’s about it.
You would have to assume that Levy and crew are looking for a bigger name to play Reynold’s late father in the film. That could be a nice juicy part and I bet they land someone good for it. They also need a charming young actor to portray the 13-year-old version of Reynolds because, come on, you can’t have some slouch playing Ryan Reynolds.
A lot of questions remain: will the film keep its original title? Who will play Reynolds’s father? Will the movie be more dramatic or more comedic? And, most importantly, when will Ryan Reynolds give himself a few days off?
