Disney+ just debuted a trailer for their highly-anticipated space show and, no, I’m not talking about another Star Wars spin-off.
Below we have a new trailer for The Right Stuff, the Disney+ drama series based on the book by Tom Wolfe and previously adapted into a film back in the 1980s. This new adaptation brings a fresh cast, an impressive team of producers and a hearty budget that makes it right at home on Disney+.
Watch!
This is the sort of content I want from Disney+. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about The Mandalorian and more shows and movies from The Muppets and Marvel but Disney also has the ability to draw from its extensive National Geographic catalogue as well and create compelling and big-budgeted, adult-aimed dramas that are binge-worthy as hell. It doesn’t have to be all superheroes and Star Wars!
The Right Stuff follows the journey of NASA’s Mercury Seven team as they fought to make their way into space before the Russians back in 1960s America. The show will be filled with a murderer’s row of astronaut legends, if you’re a NASA history buff then this series will be perfect for you. The show is being produced by Mark Lafferty (Halt and Catch Fire), Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Davisson, Danny Strong (Empire), Thelma Schoonmaker (!!!) and more. The show was originally envisioned as a Nat Geo mini-series but will now make its way to the massive streamer this October.
I really hope The Right Stuff is great because 1) it looks promising and 2) it will encourage Disney to fill their wildly successful service with more than just typical Disney productions. As great as Disney+ is, it definitely has a type and I would love to see some evolution and growth. Maybe that starts with The Right Stuff.
