‘Dune’ Trailer: Big Action, Big Danger, Big Worms

If you were worried that Denis Villeneuve‘s adaptation of Dune wouldn’t seem epic or large enough, I’ve got good news for you!

The first trailer for the movie based on Frank Herbert’s book has arrived, giving us a good look at that tone, style and overall feel that Villeneuve is going for with his “adult Star Wars.” Overall, this thing looks quite measured, dark and very, very big. Despite the bigger-than-normal budget, it still looks like a Villeneuve film too. That’s a relief because his involvement is one of the major draws of the movie. Some feared that he would lose some of his reliable style and touch with such a giant project. It seems that isn’t the case.

It also looks good — surprise, surprise. Villeneuve has crafted something that looks true to its source material while also something that mainstream audiences will eat up, whether they’ve read Dune or not. You understand why Warner Bros is so excited about this project: it could a huge smash. At the same time, I know that Dune is so dense that it could turn off some viewers. I still think there is a chance that Dune could be a legitimate success or a box office disappointment. I think it could go either way.

Regardless of its gross, Dune is definitely the sort of sci-fi I want to see on the biggest screen possible.

Does this look like Dune to you? Is this the sort of movie you imagined when Villeneuve first signed on to direct? You’ll get your definitive answer this December when Dune finally hits theaters.
