Sacha Baron Cohen, you sly dog.
Just weeks ago we reported that a viral video making the rounds online showed British funny man Sacha Baron Cohen driving around LA as his popular character, Borat. We didn’t know much, except for the fact that Cohen was definitely playing Borat and was definitely being filmed. Was he making a new TV show? A movie? A commercial? A get-out-the-vote campaign video?
Well, it looks like it was a movie. Collider is reporting that Borat 2 is definitely happening. Not only is it happening, it’s done. The website says that Cohen has filmed and edited the movie and even screened it for industry folks. Who directed Borat 2? Who is releasing it? When are they releasing it? That’s all up in the air and unknown but if Cohen has finished and shared the movie then we can assume it’s coming and coming soon.
Collider says the movie will find Borat thinking he’s a big star in America and traveling around interviewing new people “in character”. So Cohen will be playing Borat…playing someone else. Damn, that sounds more complicated than Tenet. The site notes that it’s possible a streaming service will be releasing the film, which would allow the movie to hit screens as soon as possible. Knowing Cohen, it’s likely that he wants this movie out before the election because it’ll surely touch upon some of the themes and subjects that our nation is currently (and always) grappling with.
Will Borat 2 be any good? Ehhhh, that remains to be seen. Sequels are always hard but comedy sequels have proven to be doubly hard over the years. Hopefully, Cohen is able to crack that nut.
