‘Saved by the Bell’ Trailer: Bayside High Enters the Modern Age

Peacock has released the first teaser trailer for their Saved by the Bell revival and it features returning characters, new faces and a few self-referential jokes for good measure too.

The show looks well-made, well-produced and definitely slick. It also looks radically different from the original Saved by the Bell. Gone are the 90s fashion choices, stiff-looking sitcom sets and, of course, the laugh track. Instead we see something that looks very 2020. Bayside has gone HD!

I’m still not sold on the show’s plot. In the new series, California governor Zack Morris sends many low-income high school students to Bayside High after he closes a bunch of schools across the state. The idea of Zack becoming a privileged and heartless politician just doesn’t sit right with me but something tells me these new students will warm his cold, conservative heart and make him change his ways.

The show will star a new cast comprised of Dexter Darden, Josie Totah, Mitchell Hoog, Haskiri Velazquez and more. The returning champs include Elizabeth Berkley, Mario Lopez, Tiffani Thiessen and Mark-Paul Gosselaar. It seems as though we will see a lot more of Berkley and Lopez with Thiessen and Gosselaar showing up in a more limited capacity. That makes sense, the governor can’t be dropping into his old high school every day.

You’ll notice no mention of Dustin Diamond, a.k.a Screech. The less said about Diamond and his post-Saved by the Bell career, the better.

Will the new Saved by the Bell be enough to get you on the Peacock train?
