‘You Should Have Left’ Trailer: Kevin Bacon Buys A Bad House

Real estate can be tricky, especially when the house you buy is full of spirits who seemingly want to get you killed.

The trailer above is for the new David Koepp Blumhouse horror film You Should Have Left, starring Kevin Bacon and Amanda Syfried as a married couple who get in way over their head at their new residence. What starts as a cozy, secluded house away from the world quickly becomes a nightmare full of expanding rooms, ghosts in bathtubs and some horrible secrets that spell certain doom.

I like what I see here. Though the scares and premise don’t feel even remotely new (seriously, isn’t the “growing room” idea straight from the novel House of Leaves?) the movie looks appropriately moody and creepy as hell. Plus you have Kevin Bacon leading the film which usually isn’t a bad thing. Bacon is a solid actor and though his work in the horror genre has been mixed (Hollow Man, Stir of Echoes) I still love seeing him as the star of any film.

Koepp, who directed and wrote You Should Have Left based on the novel by Daniel Kehlmann, also has a imperfect track record but this one looks like it could be a a lot of fun. Plus it’s being brought to us by Blumhouse Productions, who definitely know a thing or two about horror. Being a Blumhouse film is quickly becoming a way to get noticed by scary movie fans. They’re proving their worth lately.

It’s a damn shame that people won’t see You Should Have Left in theaters. The movie will premiere on-demand everywhere on Friday June, 19. So if you have a few hours to kill and want to spook you and your housemates out, this seems like the perfect one to rent.
