From Boston To ‘Jersey’: Netflix Signs On For Another Wahlberg Film

Mark Wahlberg is something of a perpetual motion machine. He throws on some jeans and a light jacket, unleashes his fists and Bostonian accent in front of cameras and then sits back and reaps the benefits. Lather, rinse, repeat again and again.

But, hey, it works for the guy. His latest, Spenser Confidential, was a huge hit for Netflix and was seen by about 85 million people. Not too shabby. Obviously audiences are still into Mark Wahlberg.

And so is Netflix. Deadline says the streaming giant has just acquired Our Man From Jersey, an action film that’ll star Wahlberg based on a script by David Guggenheim (Designated Survivor). The movie is being pitched as “a blue collar 007” which honestly sounds a lot like all of Wahlberg’s other movies but Netflix obviously believes you don’t fix something that isn’t broken.

The title is a bit fascinating because, as we all know, Wahlberg is a Boston boy. The idea of him trading hometowns and residing in New Jersey sounds almost outlandish. But it’ll be a chance for Wahlberg to show us some range. Although something tells me that very little about his character will change, even if his location does.

And now, another 'Star Trek' series
