The world may be seemingly coming apart at the seams and civilization may be buckling under the weight of a global pandemic and economic depression but, hey, at least people will still be able to see Chris Hardwick yammer on in Hall H come July!
San Diego Comic-Con is saying that they’re still on for the annual massive pop culture convention due to start July 23. The organization released a couple tweets today confirming that they haven’t yet delayed the con, though it sounds like there is a chance they might.
It’s kind of wild that they haven’t canceled the event yet. Let’s say things do get better with COVID-19 in fast, fast order. Even then you have to assume that all major public events for the rest of the year are going to be sparsely attended and with good reason, people are freaked the hell out. Do you really think SDCC will bring in thousands upon thousands of fans as well as dozens upon dozens of big A-list stars? Let me tell you, San Diego Comic-Con is the last thing on peoples’ minds right now. So it might as well just be canceled for the year. No one is in the mood and it’s very likely no one will be entirely safe this year too.
But Comic-Con doesn’t want people to give up hope so they decided to end their tweets with a quote from the late, great Christopher Reeve. The quote feels a little short-sighted because, in this case, persevering and enduring means staying home and staying healthy for the good of our entire country and world. The obstacle is the coronavirus and it’s defeated by canceling major events like Comic-Con.
