New ‘Resident Evil’ Adaptation (The Good One?) Reveals a Familiar Location

There are currently three (yes, three) Resident Evil adaptations in the works right now. Netflix has two shows in production, one live-action and one anime, and Constantin Film recently announced a new feature-length big screen RE from director Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down). Of all the Evils in the works, the one from Roberts is the most promising. It feels like it’ll be the one that is most accurate and faithful to the original games and will be furthest from the Paul W.S. Anderson movies that got progressively sillier and sillier.

Roberts’s movie is currently filming up in Canada and Resident Evil insiders Biohazard Declassified got a glimpse of the set. Not much from the set was shared but one really cool Easter Egg was: Emmy’s Diner. Those who know Resident Evil 2 well will remember Emmy’s, it’s the location that Claire finds herself in at the beginning of the game as Raccoon City descends into complete chaos.

The tweet below gives you a first look at Emmy’s.

This is the sort of fine touch that once again gives me hope that Johannes Roberts is creating something that true Resident Evil fans will be happy with. Now, the movie could still suck. It could be a complete disaster even with the inclusion of Emmy’s. But hopefully it isn’t. Hopefully it’s a sign that Roberts and those making this adaptation really care about the original games and the lore and mythology behind them. They’re trying to stay true to the source material. If they do, if they really make a Resident Evil that feels like Resident Evil then we are all in for something special.
