Tensions are high with everybody these days. Instead of getting caught up in the fervor of other people’s business, why not do something constructive and fun. Play some video games!

Shadowgate is one of my all-time favorite games. The point and click adventure is one of the best story based titles ever released on the NES if you dig fantasy and horror. I grew up playing and attempting to beat the game often, and years later I found out just how many versions of the title actually exist. There are ports out there for almost every era of gaming, and now we’re about to get another.

Game company Zojoi has a project in the works. The original 8-bit version of the game that debuted on the NES in 1989 is about to be available on PS4, XBOX and PC. In 4-6 weeks you’ll finally be able to get speared by a bridge troll or dissolve in coffin slime in glorious HD.

Death is a prick.

Death is a prick.

The deaths in Shadowgate are some of my favorite parts of the game, but the whole game is a fun and classic experience overall. The old MacVenture series of games are tons of fun and I still love playing them. The Uninvited and Déjà vu will be getting the new-school port treatment too, and I’m definitely going to be getting all three.

In the meantime, Zojoi is offering the Shadowgate Special Edition version of the game 80% off on Steam. The sale lasts until the end of the week so it’s a perfect time to get the game for only five bucks. My copy of the old Nintendo cartridge still sits on the shelf and gets dusted off every now and again, but it’s gonna be great to see it in HD. I just hope they include the goblin room.
