Good news: Disney+ is still actively developing a prequel TV series about Star Wars legend Obi-Wan Kenobi starring Ewan McGregor.
Bad news: it definitely won’t be a long series.
Speaking with ET Online, McGregor shed some light on the anticipated project (which has already been delayed because of major script rewrites and, of course, that pesky coronavirus). Here’s what the wildly talented/undeniably handsome actor said:
“Spring next year we start. I'm really excited about it. It's gonna be great, I think."
Fantastic! The actor then added:
"As I understand, it's a standalone season. We'll see. Who knows?"
Who knows, he says! Wonderful! No one has any idea just how long this show will last. I wanted answers, Ewan, not more questions.
The truth is that a single season about Obi-Wan is probably a good approach and makes sense. It’s a good approach because the tighter a series, the less chances there are to muck it up. There’s no chance of overstaying their welcome. Plus, we already know a lot about Obi-Wan, we don’t need an seasons-long series about him. Just give us one good, solid season and we will be happy, Disney. A singular season also makes sense because McGregor has a lot going on with his career, he’s a successful chap. He can’t just put that all on hold to film many seasons for Disney+. I honestly doubt that he would sign on to play Obi-Wan for years and years and years — again.
The Obi-Wan series is still scheduled for 2022.
