The Marvel family has a new member.
Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany has been cast as the lead in Disney+’s upcoming She-Hulk series. Maslany’s casting comes just days after it was announced that Marry Me filmmaker Kat Coiro will direct the series, while Jessica Gao (Rick & Morty) will write.
Maslany will portray Jennifer Walters, who was just an average hard-working lawyer until she was injected with an emergency blood transfusion from her cousin Bruce Banner. With Hulk blood flowing inside her, Walters has to find a balance between her law career and her ability to transform into a giant green beast. Unlike her cousin Bruce, Walters has a much better handle on becoming hulkish. She can speak normally and go about her business without too much disruption. She just happens to massive and incredibly strong. Sounds like a win-win for me.
The selection of Maslany will make a lot of people very happy. She is a super talented actress, having won an Emmy for her work on Orphan Black and just received a ton of critical acclaim for her performance on HBO’s Perry Mason. While she is mostly known for her dramatic work, she’s a very funny actress too! She has a strong sense of humor which will likely come into play for She-Hulk. Disney+ isn’t looking to make a serious, heavy law show. This is going to be a fun show. That’s good, the world needs more fun.
No word on when we will see She-Hulk. Because of the general state of the world, the show doesn’t have a production start date but with all these major announcements being made, it is obviously one of Disney+’s highest priorities. Take that, Baby Yoda!
