‘Killroy Was Here’ Trailer: Kevin Smith Makes Another Horror Movie

I’m not really sure what to think of this trailer for Kevin Smith’s latest, Killroy Was Here. It’s obviously a horror movie with some comedy elements thrown in. It obviously includes some of Smith’s regular collaborators. It obviously was made on the cheap and is a labor of love.

And those are all my thoughts on the matter! The trailer doesn’t instill much confidence or enthusiasm (it looks painfully low-budget) but I dig the idea of a horror anthology film about Killroy, the graffiti character from the mid-20th century. In Killroy Was Here, the titular character goes around slaughtering people on behalf of wronged children. You can catch a few glimpses of him in the trailer above, in between shots of Jason Mewes, Harley Quinn Smith and other Smith mainstays.

Smith shot Killroy Was Here a couple years ago but is only just now looking to release the feature. He took a while to complete the feature due to his health issues and working on the last Jay and Silent Bob film. So this thing has been a long time coming. Does that mean it will be good? Ehhhhh, I wouldn’t be so sure. Smith’s previous forays into the horror genre have been decidedly not good which is a bummer because Smith is a funny dude and I am always looking for more horror films that mix in a good amount of comedy. But I don’t know if Killroy Was Here is the horror-comedy I’ve been waiting for.

Smith has been on a tear lately, putting together movies, TV shows and podcasts like he’s going to win something. That’s quite the change from a few years ago, when Smith said he was going to retire. I’m not going to lie, I really admire his work ethic.

Killyroy Was Here is scheduled for release sometime in early 2021.
