YouTube Video Turns Disney World’s Reopening into the Beginning of ‘The Stand’

Disney World reopened in Florida this last week for some inexplicable reason (oh wait, it’s money. The reason is money) and it’s posed quite a few questions: what will a scaled-down Disney World be like? What happens if the theme park has to close again? Do the animatronic characters in the Hall of Presidents have to weak masks?

It’s a weird situation and feels unwise, unsafe and downright eerie. In case you’ve forgotten, Florida has become a hotbed for coronavirus activity, posting skyrocketing infection numbers day after day. The thing is spreading like wildfire down there. All of Florida feels unsafe.

So this video from YouTuber Sycorax Rock comparing the park’s reopening to the opening scene of Mick Garris’s The Stand feels sadly appropriate. The video takes a real commercial celebrating the amusement park’s reopening and splices in clips from the beginning of the mini-series, which includes a whole lot of dead people due to the brutal killer virus. It’s a clever little video and touches upon just how risky Disney is being with their decision. I don’t think we are going to see bodies fall in the streets of Tomorrowland but Disney World could make the COVID-19 problem a lot worse.

If anything, this video will remind you just brilliant Garris’s opening of the Stand mini-series is. The rest of the series had a whole lot of problems but you really can’t knock the beginning.

Hat tip to Dread Central for the heads up.
