‘Possessor’ Trailer: No One Does Body Horror Like A Cronenberg

A new trailer for Brandon Cronenberg’s upcoming horror thriller Possessor is here and, man, this thing looks gnarly. It looks graphic. It looks unsettling. It looks horrific.

Brandon is definitely following in the footsteps of his father.

Possessor is about a corporate agent (Andrea Riseborough) who mentally implants herself into other people and forces them to commit assassinations. Sounds like an easy job, right? Well, things get complicated when she becomes trapped in the brain of a man (Christopher Abbott) who pushes her mind and body to the limit.

Just the poster for Possessor (below) is downright terrifying. The idea of an entire movie capturing that look and feel and atmosphere sounds both exciting and incredibly brutal. The trailer promises that the movie will not hold back. In fact, rumor has it that Possessor runs the risk of earning an NC-17 rating due to graphic imagery and horror. We will see if Neon decides to edit Cronenberg’s movie or just lets the man run wild. I say let him do his thing. After this year, we can all handle some pretty disturbing things.

Cronenberg is making quite the name for himself, he is more than just his father’s son. His first film, Antiviral, was unsettling and unique and expertly-crafted. It looks like Possessor will be no different.

Possessor is due in theaters some time this year.
