Drugs, Dancing, Depression: Peacock’s ‘Brave New World’ Gets a Trailer

Articles, TrailersBrandon MarcusComment

We have written about Peacock’s upcoming adaptation of Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World before. We said it looked a bit too glossy and “made-for-TV.” I stand by that statement today as Peacock releases a full-tenth trailer for the series. It really does feel a bit too slight and basic. It looks good, sure, but it doesn’t look deep or real.

And maybe that’s the point. Everything else in the trailer above suggests that the producers of the show (Grant Morrison, David Wiener, Brian Taylor among them) understand the material. They are definitely addressing the themes that Huxley wrote about. So perhaps the look and feel that I’m complaining about is intentional. Maybe they’re creating that look to highlight just how fake and on-the-surface the world of the book is.

Or, hell, maybe I’m giving them too much credit. Maybe this series looks like a SyFy original because it has the budget of a SyFy original. I guess we will know in a few weeks when Brave New World premieres. I am hoping for the best but also ready for the worst.

Get a load of the new trailer above. It’s full of pills that will make you “happy”, unhinged dance parties and a contact lens that looks insanely uncomfortable.

Brave New World hits Peacock (NBCUniversal’s new streaming service) on July 15.
