Emmerich to Destroy Earth Again, with Halle Berry and Josh Gad

Getting back to what he was placed on this earth to do, Roland Emmerich will be threatening the planet once again with Moonfall for Lionsgate (per THR). The plot is exactly what you would imagine it to be: the moon gets knocked out of orbit and onto a collision course with Earth. With only weeks before the end of all life on Earth, a ragtag team, lunar mission, save humanity, etc. It sounds like his other films, and also a lot like Armageddon. Emmerich, for his part, describes it as a cross between 2012 and Independence Day, so, you know, a very exciting project, for all involved.

Anyway, they have some cast members now. Halle Berry will be playing' ‘an astronaut-turned-NASA-administrator whose previous mission holds a clue to the catastrophe.’ That sounds like potentially your lead role, and Berry seems like about the kind of person who would star in such a thing. Josh Gad has also joined, and is playing ‘an eccentric genius who deduces the moon has fallen out of its orbit.’ This paints a pretty clear picture in my mind as to what kind of movie to expect, and I suspect we’ll see other, similar actors joining the project to fill out the various bureaucrats, politicians and regular folks.

Anyway, no matter how many things go wrong, we’ll never want for disaster movies.
