Chris Hemsworth Beats Up — And Blows up — A Lot In ‘Extraction’ Trailer

Chris Hemsworth, the once-and-future Thor, is a tough guy. There is no denying that. No one debates that. We all know he’s one bad ass dude.

But watching this trailer for Netflix’s Extraction, it’s as if someone told Hemsworth that he’s a big ol’ pansy. Because this trailer shows just how incredibly strong and ruggedly powerful Hemsworth is. He beats up dozens of men, shoots probably a couple hundred, he leaps off of a cliff into a lake and then sits at the bottom of said lake. Again and again this trailer attempts to prove that Chris Hemsworth is one mighty S.O.B.

Hemsworth plays Tyler Rake, a mercenary who gets himself caught up in a whole heap of trouble when he tries to safely extract a child caught up in a drug war. Chaos, broken bones and exploded body parts ensue.

All in all, Extraction looks better than I expected. I am a bit bummed that Hemsworth is playing such a dour, straight-man role. I love when he is able to show a bit of humor. But that is apparently not the type of movie we have here. This is an out-and-out action film and feels like something that Michael Bay would approve of. The film is produced by the Russo Brothers (who, according to the trailer, are “visionary”) and directed by Sam Hargrave, who was previously the stunt coordinator for Avengers: Endgame. If this preview is any indication, Hargrave has a few clever tricks up his sleeve and is really leaving it all out on the field. This movie looks loud and proud.

Netflix is making headway in its attempts to release more action movies. Its previous actioner, 6 Underground, made some noise upon release and they seem to be aiming for another massive, explosive movie with Extraction. But, hey, Netflix has A LOT of money so funding movies like this is no sweat to them. The budget for Extraction is probably just chump change to them, my friends. Chump change.

Extraction hit Netflix on April 24.
