Sometimes I feel that unless you actually work at Apple, you may have forgotten about Apple TV+. I suppose there are some major fans of The Morning ShowFor All Mankind and Amazing Stories out there but I haven’t met them. No, it seems that Apple TV+ just doesn’t create much buzz...or many hits.

But they keep trying and I honestly think that eventually Apple’s streaming service will debut a show that does become a smash. It just hasn’t happened yet.

Will Defending Jacob be the first Apple TV+ hit? This First Look video below shows off the cast and the story and the direction and it all honestly looks pretty damn good. Maybe they have something special on their hands.

Defending Jacob revolves around a family that is thrown into chaos when a son is arrested for murder. His parents, played by Chris Evans and Michelle Dockery, are thrust into a nightmare scenario where they must question their son, their loyalty and the truth. The mini-series is based on the novel by William Landay.

I love seeing Evans flexing his acting muscles and he definitely seems to be bringing some serious power here. He is miles away from his Captain America persona and that is a good thing, it is time for Evans to continue showing his range. I am also a fan of the rest of the cast, including Jaeden Martell, J.K. Simmmons, Cherry Jones, Pablo Schreiber and Sakina Jaffrey. The direction is handled by Morten Tyldum of The Imitation Game fame.

Defending Jacob will consist of eight episodes, which sounds just perfect for a new addictive crime drama. It has an intriguing plot, plus a wonderful cast. Everything seems to be lining up for success here. But will it be a smash or will it be just another Apple TV+ project that amounts to nothing more than a blip on the radar?
