So, So Many More ‘Dune’ Images Have Arrived

Just yesterday — a mere 24 hours ago — we were given one glorious image from Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune. Just one picture, that is all we got! And today, thanks to the folks at Vanity Fair, we got a whole slew of new shots from the film.

Below we have images of Timothee Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Oscar Isaac as his father Duke Leto, Rebecca Ferguson as his mother Lady Jessica, Jason Momoa as his trainer Duncan Idaho, Zendaya as the mysterious Chani and more. So much more. It is a variable cornucopia do Dune goodness!

Along with the character shots, we can get a much better sense at the world created for Dune. As you would expect, things look very arid and barren. Not very inviting!

The images suggest a wonderful balance between sci-fi fantasy and reality and we would expect no less from Villeneuve. There are little touches here, like the way the costumes look, that feel so real. I am excited to see all of this in motion.

Villeneuve has bitten off a lot here, Dune is an infamously complicated and dense affair. How will that play with mainstream audiences? The director has consistently proven that he is willing to take on smart science fiction and isn’t necessarily happy with holding the hand of the audience. Will the same be true for Dune, which stands a chance at being a huge hit?

Dune — with all its mythology, history and many characters — is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, 2020.
