The First Image From ‘Dune’ Done Dropped

Don’t worry, dear friends. While the world around us most certainly is falling apart, there are still some good things ahead. One of those good things would be Denis Villeneuve’s Dune adaptation. People have been waiting for Villeneuve’s take on the classic Frank Herbert novel for seemingly ages — with few behind-the-scenes peeks at what to expect. Villeneuve, always the little stinker, has refused to let fans in on production so people have had to wait and hope.

And while we still have to wait for awhile more, at least we now have something from the film. That something is an image of Timothy Chalamet as the film’s lead role, Paul Atreides. The first picture of Chalamet’s Atreides has him wandering pensively on a beach on his home planet of Caladan. Fans of Dune know that Atreides and his entire family move from Caladan to the much-more-dangerous Arrakis, where the real plot begins.

So we don’t see much with this first image from Dune but it does give us a sense of atmosphere. It definitely looks like a Villeneuve film and that’s the most exciting thing about Dune. Fans of the novel are ecstatic that they got such a talented filmmaker to handle this adaptation. And Villeneuve, for his part, is excited too. He says it’s the movie he has always wanted to make and has called it an “adult Star Wars”, which is one hell of a back-handed compliment.

The image is pretty bare but I still love every minor detail. I love Chalamet’s outfit, I love the color scheme, I love the space ships floating in the sky. Oh, yes, the first look at Denis Villeneuve’s Dune is just as good as I had hoped.

The film is still scheduled to open on December 18, 2020 but c’mon, you know that could definitely change.
