‘Scream 5’ Moves Forward And Nabs A Couple Of Directors

IMG_0809.jpeg

Scream 5 is happening. Scream 5 is (tentatively) set to begin filming in May. And Scream 5 has a pair of directors signed on to helm the project.

That’s the news coming from Discussing Film today. They say that Ready Or Not filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillet will direct the film, with Chad Villella and Scream mastermind Kevin Williamson producing. They even dug up a little information on the plot, saying the sequel will be about “a woman returning to her home town to try to find out who has been committing a series of vicious crimes.”

Discussing Film makes a point to remind readers that they don’t know if this movie will be a follow-up or reboot or remake. We don’t know which cast members — if any — will return. Honestly, we don’t know much of anything about the film. All we know is that Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillet are on board to helm it. People will likely be pretty happy with that selection because their Ready Or Not was something of a surprise horror hit that many applauded for its direction and feisty personality. Sounds like their style will be a good fit for Scream 5.

I’m not sure how I feel about another Scream. I still regard the first film as a horror movie classic but the subsequent sequels had diminishing returns (though Scream 4 is better than expected). Still, I can’t deny that I would be excited to see Ghostface on the big screen again. But I would also like to see Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courteney Cox return. It just feels wrong to move forward with this sequel/reboot/whatever without them being involved in at least some way. They are Scream.

Hat tip to Bloody Disgusting for the scoop.
