Oh, For God’s Sake: Mark Wahlberg Is Producing A Docuseries About…Mark Wahlberg
There is a lot I don’t understand about this country but one of the biggest head-scratchers I have about America is our fascination with Mark Wahlberg. Sure, he’s a fun actor but people seem to damn-near worship the man. They idolize his looks, his persona, his fitness routine, his film choices. The man has been incredible in exactly one film (The Departed) and average-to-good in most everything else. And he seems like kind of a sourpuss when he’s promoting his work, he doesn’t come across as the most likable guy on the block. Yet it seems there is a wide swath of our country that will never tire of Wahlberg’s tough Bostonian antics.
And now upcoming streaming service HBO Max is developing a documentary series all about Wahlberg. Titled Wahl Street (okay, I’ll give them credit for the title) the show will display the ups and downs of Wahlberg’s life, including his business ventures and his acting career. Here’s how HBO Max pitches it:
Ah yes, business and life lessons from Mark Wahlberg. What more could you ask for?
It’ll come as no surprise that Wahlberg himself is producing Wahl Street. Wahlberg has long worked closely with HBO, giving them multiple series including Entourage and also several documentary shows. It was only a matter of time until he turned the cameras on himself.
Wahl Street is most definitely something I will take a hard pass on. I’m not against a show about the life of a Hollywood superstar, I just don’t need to see how Mark Wahlberg lives his life. Unless there is an episode examining why so many people are intrigued by the Boogie Nights star. If he was able to crack that case open and uncover why he’s so beloved then I might be on board. But I think I got my fill of Wahlberg back when The Big Hit came out.
