‘Between Two Ferns: The Movie’ Trailer: Zach Galifianakis and His Plants Hit the Road

‘Between Two Ferns: The Movie’ Trailer: Zach Galifianakis and His Plants Hit the Road

Zach Galifianakis is one weird duck. His internet show, Between Two Ferns, is one weird show. Therefore it’s no surprise that Between Two Ferns: The Movie looks like one weird movie.

Note: we like weirdness.

The first trailer for Netflix’s Between Two Ferns: The Movie promises more of the silly, absurd humor that made the internet talk show so successful. But this time, Galifianakis is a part of a story with an actual plot and is surrounded by dozens of big-name celebrities. That doesn’t mean he will be a better talk show host though, as evidenced by his first question to Brie Larson…

The movie will follow Galifianakis and his rag-tag production crew as they cross the country attempting to film ten episodes of his series. It’s a pretty basic plot but one that will allow for multiple cameos, locations and whacky hijinks. It’s not about the plot here, it’s about Galifianakis. And it looks like we will get plenty of him. Count me in.

The film, directed by comedy heavy weight Scott Aukerman (Comedy Bang! Bang!) sounds like something that would be a bad idea on paper. It’s like when a wonderful SNL sketch is stretched out into an entire feature-length film. That usually doesn’t go well. But the talent involved makes this look like something special. Plus it seems that Netflix isn’t afraid of allowing Aukerman and Galifianakis to keep the same sort of humor they’ve employed on the show for years. That’s a huge relief.

And how about that list of celebrities? Paul Rudd, Peter Dinklage, Tiffany Haddish, Keanu Reeves, Chance the Rapper, Chrissy Teigen, Tessa Thompson and more are all lined up to appear. That’s an impressive roster of famous people who will be embarrassed and put into awkward situations.

Even if the movie itself ends up only being okay, at least we will get to see Galifianakis interview David Letterman. That will be a moment that could go down in cinema history.

Between Two Ferns: The Movie hits Netflix on September 20th.

Zach Galifianakis dreamed of becoming a star. But when Will Ferrell discovered his public access TV show “Between Two Ferns” and uploaded it to Funny Or Die, Zach became a viral laughing stock. Now Zach and his crew are taking a road trip to complete a series of high-profile celebrity interviews and restore his reputation.
