‘See’ Trailer: AppleTV+’s Post-Apocalyptic Drama Is Worth a Look
The trailer above is for AppleTV+’s new series, See. The show star Jason Momoa and is produced by Steven Knight and directed by Francis Lawrence. It takes place in a future where all of mankind has been decimated by a virus (I guess they didn’t have Apple Care) and the survivors have all lost the sense of sight. Bummer.
But wait, it seems that some newborns CAN see! You’d think that would be cause for celebration but, as the trailer proves, it only makes things more complicated and sends Momoa and his band of survivors on a dangerous journey for safety.
The show looks great. And when I say “looks” I mean Apple has obviously spent a good deal of cash on this thing. Don’t take my word for it, the Wall Street Journal quotes the budget for See at $15 million PER EPISODE. That’s bananas. That’s the sort of money HBO was spending on the final season of Game of Thrones and See hasn’t even aired a single episode yet. It looks like Apple will get their money’s worth though. This television show looks far superior to most modern movies and promises to wow whoever tunes in.
It’s further proof of how seriously Apple is taking their venture into streaming. They might not be able to compete with a stacked library like Disney or Netflix but they can spend their oceans of cash on content. They will hire the very best people and sink as much money as needed to make these shows special.
But will See (and the other AppleTV+ shows) be any good or will they just look great and cost a lot of money? The plot of See feels tired to me — and that’s coming from someone who absolutely adores all things post-apocalyptic. Aside from the blindness angle, does it bring anything new to the table? Not really.
But maybe the sheer force and power of Jason Momoa will make See work. If it is a complete bore, it won’t be because of a skimpy budget.
See starts streaming on AppleTV+ on November 1st.
