Trailer for ‘Wu-Tang: An American Saga’ Ain’t Nuthing to F’ Wit
We’ve all heard the music of the Wu-Tang Clan and now it’s time to hear the story of them as well.
Hulu has released the first trailer for Wu-Tang: An American Saga, the 10-episode series all about the rise of one of hip-hop’s most influential and successful groups. The series is co-created by Wu-Tang’s very own RZA (and Alex Tse) and stars Shameik Moore, Ashton Sanders, Marcus Callender, Siddiq Saunderson, Erika Alexander, Zolee Griggs and of course many more.
Check out the short teaser below.
Okay, this looks good.
It comes as a perfect time too. Hollywood and America seem to be in love with the musician biopic, first with Bohemian Rhapsody and then Rocketman. There are a slew of others like those in development and they will likely be hits too. People are digging these coming-of-age stories about our favorite performers.
An American Saga promises to be radically different from those projects above because the story itself is radically different. The members of Wu-Tang rose from poverty and crime and became rap sensations. Through it all, they stayed true to themselves and their unique approach to the craft. Come on, you can’t name many musicians who are so heavily influenced by Kung-fu movies. Wu-Tang did it different. Their story deserves to be told.
The inclusion of RZA as a co-creator is very important for the project. Not only does he know the story of his group super well but he’s a force of nature in Hollywood. He’s directed and starred in multiple films now and has proven himself as a musician who has made a seamless transition into cinema. Actually, multiple members of the Wu-Tang Clan have made the leap from music to movies. Having RZA behind-the-scenes on this series ensures it’ll be truthful AND entertaining.
Wu-Tang: An American Saga debuts on Hulu on September 4th.
