Just when all hope was…lost.
The CW, no strangers to vampires and teenagers and teenage vampires, is giving their Lost Boys pilot another shot. Deadline reports that back in May, The CW requested a major retooling of the initial pilot that they passed on. To prove how serious they are about reworking the material, producing partner Warner Bros. TV then released the entire damn cast of the pilot, except for two stars: Medalion Rahimi and Dakota Shapiro. They will now lead a brand new pilot that’ll film by the end of the year, hopefully to The CW’s liking. So this Lost Boys show has come back to life! That’s good news for fans of the original movie. It’s also good news for Rahimi and Shapiro. It is, however, very bad news for the rest of the poor cast.
I don’t have to tell you the plot of The Lost Boys considering it’s an 80s staple. But for those who don’t know, it revolves around a couple of brothers who move to sunny California with their mother. The beach life soon turns sour when the teens discover that all of their peers happen to be blood-suckers. You didn’t care for your high school class? Imagine them all being vampires.
This version of the CW pilot will follow the plot of the film pretty closely with Raimi playing the part originally taken by Jami Gertz and Shapiro taking on the role originated by Kiefer Sutherland. As for the rest of the cast, who the hell knows at this point!
While I’m actually intrigued by a Lost Boys show, I’m disappointed that it won’t involve the story concocted by Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas a few years ago. His Lost Boys would have been an anthology series of sorts, each season taking on another decade of teenage vampire mayhem. That idea, sadly, was lost to the sands of time as Thomas went on to resurrect Veronica Mars.
I’m hopeful this reworked, recast pilot is good, gets picked up and creates the Echo & The Bunnymen revival we’ve all been waiting for.
