'DC Super Pets' Movie Is Apparently Happening but Has Been Pushed Back

I think I know a lot about superheroes and superhero films but I can definitely (proudly?) state that I had no idea a DC Super Pets movie was in development. Did you know about this? I’m really slacking at my job here, aren’t I?

Anyway, it’s being made. The film will be directed by Jared Stern and Sam Levine and was scheduled to open on May 21, 2021. But now Deadline is reporting that the movie has been pushed back an entire year and won’t hit theaters until May 22, 2022. That’s a year and a day! I’m disappointed. Granted, I just found out this movie even exists but still!

For those who don’t know (like me), DC Super Pets will be an animated film about the animal companions of your favorite heroes, some of whom you know and some you don’t. The roster will consist of Ace the Bat-Hound (Batman), Krypto the Super-Dog (Superman), Jumpa (Wonder Woman), Streaky the Super-Cat (Supergirl), Storm (Aquaman), Beppo the Super-Monkey (Superman) and Comet the Super-Horse (Supergirl). A Super-Horse! Can you believe it?

There’s no doubt that DC Super Pets will be absolutely adorable and will also likely be a huge hit with kids. It’s smart of DC to continually look at new ways to expand their cinematic universe. They originally tried to compete directly with Marvel and their MCU but, as we all know, that didn’t work out in their favor. So now they’re trying new things — movies that are more playful like Shazam! Or movies that don’t rely so heavily on others, like Wonder Woman. And now they’re changing things up even more by focusing on the damn pets of heroes. Think about it, that’s how popular these types of movies are. The pets of comic book characters are getting their own movies. What a world.
