‘Hobbs & Shaw’ Looks Like a God Damn Superhero Film
Both Jason Statham and Dwayne Johnson star in Hobbs & Shaw (excuse me, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw) so we knew that there was going to be a lot of action. But I don’t think any of us expected this.
The first trailer for the upcoming Fast & Furious spin-off is here and it’s most definitely a lot. A lot of one-liners, a lot of big, strong men being thrown around, a lot of high-flying antics and adventure. This movie looks more fantastic and over-the-top than most Marvel films. I mean, get a load of the last twenty seconds with Dwayne Johnson practically flying. Flying!
The F&F movies have become progressively crazier and crazier. It’s not much of a joke when people expect them to eventually take place in space. It seems that Hobbs & Shaw is really leaning into the madness. They’re upping the ante and making it count. I’m not complaining, mind you. This film looks like a pure shot of adrenaline and testosterone straight into my veins. People are going to eat this up. Give the people what they want, Hobbs & Shaw!
I haven’t even touched on Idris Elba in this trailer. If you think Statham and Johnson are a bit extreme, wait until you get a load of him. Once again: this movie is going to be a lot.
Hobbs & Shaw opens this summer. Check out this ridiculous official synopsis:
Ever since hulking lawman Hobbs (Johnson), a loyal agent of America's Diplomatic Security Service, and lawless outcast Shaw (Statham), a former British military elite operative, first faced off in 2015’s Furious 7, the duo have swapped smack talk and body blows as they’ve tried to take each other down.
But when cyber-genetically enhanced anarchist Brixton (Idris Elba) gains control of an insidious bio-threat that could alter humanity forever — and bests a brilliant and fearless rogue MI6 agent (The Crown’s Vanessa Kirby), who just happens to be Shaw’s sister — these two sworn enemies will have to partner up to bring down the only guy who might be badder than themselves.
Hobbs & Shaw blasts open a new door in the Fast universe as it hurtles action across the globe, from Los Angeles to London and from the toxic wasteland of Chernobyl to the lush beauty of Samoa.
A LOT!
