If there is one thing I know about the world, it’s that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson loves talking about his forthcoming Black Adam movie. The actor has been attached to the DC property for ages now and never misses an opportunity to assure fans that, yes, it is still happening despite all the delays. The success of Shazam! only increased Johnson’s statements about Black Adam. After all, the character is a Shazam villain so if audiences ate up Shazam!, they’ll definitely eat up Black Adam too, right?
Well, I guess we will find out December 22, 2021. That’s the official release date of Black Adam. The news comes to us courtesy of — who else? — Dwayne Johnson, who released a lengthy Instagram post about his excitement to finally don the costume and give us the badass, tough-talking, rebellious DC character we deserve.
For those who don’t know, Black Adam was originally a bad guy who dueled with Shazam (then called Captain Marvel…it’s a long story) but has recently been tweaked a bit to be more of an antihero. Warner Bros definitely sees the Black Adam movie as a stepping stone to a Black Adam/Shazam face-off, something which Johnson has teased a bunch in the past.
Now that we have an official release date and official character art, the next step is more casting and to finally see Johnson in that suit. It’s been a long time coming and fans of the character (of which there are many!) are dying to see this film move forward. I think many of them assumed that it would never happen. They thought that Black Adam, like Cyborg or other various DC characters, would be put on the back burner again and again and would never get his time to shine on the big screen. But that’s obviously not the case and Dwayne Johnson will remind you of that every single chance he gets.
