Above is the first trailer for Warner Bros’ Scoob! the animated return of Scooby-Doo and (sigh) an origin story that finally tells how Scooby and Shaggy met years before fighting ghouls and goblins with the Mystery Gang.
I know none of us were asking to see how Scooby and Shaggy came together in their youths but WB thinks that audiences want that. While we will finally witness their epic first union, the trailer also promises to showcase Shaggy, Scooby and the rest of the Mystery Gang as adults as well so it’s not JUST a tale of them as kids. There also seems to be something going on with aliens and little robots too. Looks like things will get weird in Scoob!
It also looks like things will be wholesome. The movie appears cute enough, harmless and charming and will probably inspire millions of little kids to try their best Scooby-Doo impressions. The cynic in me says we don’t need another Scooby-Doo movie and we definitely don’t need a Scooby origin story but obviously these movies aren’t for me. Plus, the Scooby-Doo franchise is many kids’ first little taste of horror so I am going to salute the series for that. Yes, Scoob! might not be a necessary film but so be it.
The cast for this thing is pretty great, to be honest. Will Forte, Amanda Seyfried, Zac Efron, Gina Rodriguez and Mark Wahlberg all star and, of course, cartoon icon Frank Welker will voice ol’ Scoob. No word if Scrappy-Doo will make an appearance but I hope not because that little guy is a punk.
Scoob! opens May 15, 2020. Tell your kids.
