The Makers of Turbo Kid Are Back with 'Summer of 84'

The Makers of Turbo Kid Are Back with 'Summer of 84'

Turbo Kid is one of my favorite films of the last few years. I love the tone and story that captures the fun of dystopian, post-apocalyptic adventure. If there's any one movie that I would immediately show my friends who grew up as 80s kids with an interest in genre films, it's Turbo Kid.

Now three years later, the production team that brought us cyborg Michael Ironside is back with a film that seems a little less fantastical. Summer of 84 is the new film from director trio RKSS (François Simard, Anouk Whissell, Yoann-Karl Whissell) and it looks to be a solid mystery movie surrounding a group of teenage kids. Check it out.

On first impression Summer of 84 might appear to be nothing more than a Stranger Things clone, but I actually think there might be something better going on here. 80s teen ensemble pics are excellent when done right and the bar will always be set high by the likes of Stand By Me and The Monster Squad. It doesn't look like there's anything supernatural going on here, but the premise sounds good and the trailer looks great.

Have a look at the ovvicial synopsis and official poster and decide for yourself if you're down for Summer of 84. It'll be out in theaters August 10 and on VOD August 24. I'm already looking forward to it.

Summer, 1984: The perfect time to be 15 years old and care free. But when neighborhood conspiracy theorist Davey Armstrong begins to suspect his police officer neighbor might be the serial killer all over the local news, he and his three best friends begin an investigation that soon turns dangerous.
