Severin Gets Kinky with Forgotten Fulci Film 'The Devil's Honey'
I love Severin Films just about as much as I love Fulci movies. Severin is a distribution company that has been on a roll this year with incredible obscure cult titles like Cathy’s Curse and Joe D’Amato’s Beyond the Darkness. Every time they get ahold of a lost gem of forgotten cinema, the company cranks out an amazing high-definition release that honors and pays tribute to its source. Now they have announced the release of Lucio Fulci’s lost erotic shocker The Devil’s Honey, and damn if we shouldn’t be excited.
This looks insane. I have watched almost all of the hardcore horror films Fulci directed in his heyday, and I’ve even enjoyed some of his lighter fare riffing on western and post-apocalyptic genres. What I haven’t seen much of is his more erotically charged work, aside from a few scenes in his meta-autobiographical slasher A Cat in the Brain. It’s a dimension of Fulci that I have always been interested in and The Devil’s Honey looks like one hell of a great way to start.
Severin has announced that this film will hit the streets on September 26, and already the Blu-ray and DVD versions are available to preorder. They have put together a limited edition of the Blu that includes the alternate NSFW French artwork, and they also have a Lucio Fulci enamel pin to order as well. The extras for this look great and Severin has always done right by the maestro. Until now I have never seen or even heard of this one, but I am definitely ready to enjoy The Devil’s Honey. Fulci Lives!
In perhaps his most rarely seen film, Godfather Of Gore Lucio Fulci takes on the erotic thriller genre and unleashes the ultimate onslaught of glossy depravity: Brett Halsey (DEMONIA, THE RETURN OF THE FLY), Corinne Cléry (THE STORY OF O, MOONRAKER) and Blanca Marsillach star in this insane S&M saga complete with sodomy, torture, torrid romance, rampant nudity and a jaw-dropping cavalcade of kink that Beyond Terror: The Films of Lucio Fulci calls “Demented and hot…good sleazy fun and perhaps Fulci’s last truly enjoyable film.” Stefano Madia (BODY COUNT), Bernard Seray (HELL OF THE LIVING DEAD) and Fulci himself co-star in this skintastic sickie – also known as DANGEROUS OBSESSION – newly scanned from the original negative and transferred in HD for the first time ever.
