The Knife Tease New Video and a Possible Return
The Knife is one of the best bands of the last 20 years. Karin Dreijer Andersson and her brother Olof are musical geniuses unlike any others working today. A few years ago the duo announced their retirement from the music world, but today they posted something brand new that nobody was expecting.
What the hell is going on here? I have no idea where any of this "Mother of Knives Cooking Class" stuff is coming from. It looks like Zeke the Plumber and Tourist Trap had a baby and let it loose in a Danish triangle house.
I've been following The Knife religiously since 2006 so a taste of anything new is definitely very welcome. Their discography is only made up of a handful of albums, but just about every song the two have produced is engaging and unique. I'm especially fond of their watershed record Silent Shout and would recommend any of their music to folks looking for something different and imaginative.
This clip excites the hell out of me. It looks like there are a few things going on here that fall in line with what Karin and Olof were exploring before they left the spotlight. What strikes me the most is the destruction of the mask. Pics of the two were widely circulated years ago of them wearing plague doctor masks and those images became instantly iconic. Maybe they are destroying that identity to redefine themselves and show us something we aren't expecting.
I'm ready for more music from these two. The copies of Deep Cuts, Silent Shout and Shaking the Habitual that sit in my collection have been played again and again, and I'm ready for more. The music in this "Cooking Class" video is sampled from the track Networking off their last full-length album that featured the massive single Full of Fire.
The best case scenario would be that The Knife are back and ready to release new music and go on tour. If there is any band in the world worth traveling across the globe for, it's them. Let's cross our fingers and hope for the best on this one. Until we know more, here are a few of my favorite tracks from them to get you psyched for what's to come.
