Joe Pilato, Tom Savini and John Harrison’s Meta Snuff Drama Is Getting a 4K Blu
This news already dropped a few months ago, but Trouble City didn’t exist back then! Apparently right after finishing up Dawn of the Dead, George Romero’s A-Team made a movie about making independent snuff. Before today, I had never heard of Effects. Somehow this one flew under the radar even after getting a DVD release in 2005 by Synapse Films.
I’m kind of excited by the trailer for this one. I just rewatched Martin last night and am ready to dive into more 70s era Romero & company flicks. The ratings on IMDb and Amazon are all over the board and don’t really give a clear idea of just how good or bad the film is. Either way, it’s a movie starring Rhodes, Savini and the director/composer of Tales from the Darkside: The Movie so I’m automatically sold. Check out the trailer and the Blu-ray specs below.
AGFA is excited to announce details for the EFFECTS Blu-ray, which will be released on August 22!
Cobbled together with loose change by George Romero’s friends, EFFECTS is a mesmerizing D.I.Y. frightmare that no one talks about, but everyone should. A group of coked-up filmmakers -- including Tom “DAWN OF THE DEAD” Savini, Joe "DAY OF THE DEAD“ Pilato, and John “TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE: THE MOVIE” Harrison -- gather in Pittsburgh to make a slasher called DUPED: THE SNUFF MOVIE. As filming begins and “accidents” happen, it’s clear that something isn’t right. And no one can be trusted. Landing somewhere between SNUFF and a student film by John Carpenter, EFFECTS is a meta-enhanced takedown on the philosophy of horror that doubles as a sleazy and terrifying movie on its own.
