'GORGOA' Is This Weekend's Must Play New Game

The newest title from Megan Ellison’s video game company Annapurna Interactive is GOROGOA and it is great. This is a multi-platform puzzler that looks, sounds and plays like a dream. It’s a game that melds elements of religion and existentialism to create a story of one person’s journey through life. It’s so good the trailer barely even does it justice.

In GOROGOA you start off as a child who sees a giant creature that looks removed straight from a folktale. This mythical creature spikes your interest and leads you down a path of discovery as you progress through different stages of life. The goal is to collect the five fruits found in a book of mythology that are meant to be an offering. Once they are all collected, you reach the end of your journey of discovery.

I absolutely loved this game. It just came out yesterday and already I’ve beaten it on PC, iPhone and the Nintendo Switch. GOROGOA is totally worth playing and beating multiple times. There are elements to the design that might be overlooked during a playthrough, but like a well-crafted film there are times when you might see something missed the first time.

Every click takes you one step closer to the end of your journey.

The PC download from Steam is probably my favorite way to experience the game, but there’s a catch. GOROGOA can be played with mouse and keyboard controls or touchscreen depending on preference. Dragging and dropping the screen panels to reveal new areas or solve puzzles can be time-consuming using a mouse or touchpad, but that is the best way to see the full visual scope of the game.

You can use the touchscreen controls with the PC version if you have a 2-in-1 laptop or monitors that support the feature depending on your gear. That’s one of the best design aspects of GOROGOA is just how universal it is with our current technology. This makes it adapt to iOS and the Switch perfectly. It’s a game that you can play almost any way you want.

This is a game I highly recommend for fans of point-and-click puzzle games. It’s a fun and beautifully rendered adventure story of life and exploration. I got a lot of enjoyment out of playing GOROGOA and look forward to more from developer and illustrator Jason Roberts, and of course Annapurna Interactive. Currently the game is on sale through Steam and for the couple hours it takes to play through the story, it’s definitely worth getting and experiencing. GOROGOA is excellent.
