'The Road Movie' Is a Cacophony of Russian Dashcam Mayhem
Imagine a dim room deep in the heart of the Russian tundra filled with YouTubers watching fail videos. Maybe that sounds ridiculous, or maybe it sounds like ground zero for a brilliant idea.
You know those Russian dashcam compilations? Well, now there’s a movie; a full-length feature film comprised entirely of the craziest driving fails ever captured on video. Watch and behold.
The Road Movie looks all too familiar. Crazy drivers, nightmare car crashes and maniacs wielding melee weapons; it’s the kind of watercooler stuff we share every day on social media.
Fail videos are practically an industry, so it’s no wonder a team of editors decided to cut together a feature film and dress it up as a documentary. The thing is, this actually looks like it’s worth seeing. Just check out the synopsis:
A mosaic of asphalt adventures, landscape photography, and some of the craziest shit you’ve ever seen, Dmitrii Kalashnikov’s THE ROAD MOVIE is a stunning compilation of video footage shot exclusively via the deluge of dashboard cameras that populate Russian roads. The epitome of a you-have-to-see-it-to-believe-it documentary, THE ROAD MOVIE captures a wide range of spectacles through the windshield — including a comet crashing down to Earth, an epic forest fire, and no shortage of angry motorists taking road rage to wholly new and unexpected levels — all accompanied by bemused commentary from unseen and often stoic drivers and passengers.
Oscilloscope has a great track record of putting out entertaining movies, so I’m not worried that this film will be without merit. The trailer looks fun and I’m pretty sure there will be at least a few clips included that can’t be found anywhere else. The Road Movie comes out on January 19 in select theaters and I kinda really want to see this on the big screen. It looks like fun.
